The American Legion Kiltonic Post 72, will sponsor the annual Memorial Day ceremonies Monday, May 30. Members interested in participating are asked to meet at 6:30 a.m. at the post home, 64 Main St., for coffee and doughnuts.

Local high school speaker tries for $18K

This weekend 53 high school speakers, including  Timothy Lachapelle, a junior at Southington High School, will compete this weekend in The American Legion National High School Oratorical Scholarship Contest on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis.

Southington volunteers representing various civic organizations were active in making the Veterans Stand Down 2008 event held on Sept. 13 a success. There were more than 1,200 veterans in attendance at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home to learn about community services that are available. Volunteers and project leaders included Elks Lodge 1669, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 and its auxiliary, and the Emblem Club. Organizing the free clothing at the event are, Barbara Pintarich, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 auxiliary, front; Barbara Pasha, Southington Elks, center; and Linda Raynis, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 auxiliary.

American Legion Post 72 garners multiple awards

American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 of Southington received numerous awards on July 10 at the 90th annual Awards Ceremony during the Department of Connecticut annual Convention held in Rocky Hill. These awards are named after past American Legion Department of Connecticut Commanders.
