Blue Knights prepare for Manchester

The Blue Knights are preparing for a big CCC Division I contest this Friday on the road against Manchester. Both teams are 4-1 and reside in Class LL. A win could play a big role in who's in and who's out in terms of playoffs at the end of the season. The Southington High boys soccer team thought their season was over Thursday afternoon in a 1-0 second round loss to Fairfield Prep in the Class LL tournament. However, Fairfield Prep was playing with an ineligible player, who had received two yellow cards in the team's opening round win over E.O. Smith and was suppossed to sit out against Southington but didn't.

Knights get All-Courant honors

On Wednesday, July 8, The Hartford Courant came out with their All-Courant teams from the past spring in high school sports. Within the section, The Courant recognizes the best athlete’s their main coverage area; mostly Hartford County. Some Blue Knights made that list and here they are:

Vindication for Mella

 With recent allegations surrounding Southington head football coach Bill Mella and the resignation of three of his assistants in early June, his life in the public eye in weeks prior has been much like the weather – stormy, rainy, cold and unpredictable.

O'Brien named Academic All-State, Charamuts All-State V-Ball

Kevin O'Brien, of the Blue Knights baseball team, was named to the Academic All-State team by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA). O'Brien was one of 15 players who recieved the honor across the state (not just in Class LL).

Ryan's younger brother Brendan was also honored for the first time as an All-State performer and will be counted on next year for the Knights if they hope to return to the finals and pick up the illusive win.

Blue Knights fill up All-Conference teams

With the spring season over, it is time to recognize those that were given All-Conference honors in their respective sports. All sports participate in the Central Connecticut Conference North except lacrosse, which is in the generic CCC because there are not enough teams, and volleyball, which is in the CCC South. Here they are:

Wholley named 2nd team All-State

Sophomore Zach Wholley of the Blue Knights boys' lacrosse team was named second team All-State in Division L by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association. Wholley, a midfielder, was a key piece to the puzzle this year for a rapidly growing lacrosse program at the high school.

Three Southington High School coaches resign

School Superintendent Joseph V. Erardi Jr. said three assistant Southington High School football coaches have resigned and information provided by the former coaches prompted an administrative investigation into a checking account used by the team for equipment purchases.

Third time's a charm: Softball advances past Simsbury to final four
