Liz Dietz picked up her dad’s trumpet when she was in the third grade. She maneuvered the keys and blew into it. She had already been playing the piano since she was four, but she knew she wanted to play an instrument she could perform with in a band.

The Music on the Green concert scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, June 16, featuring "Legacy," has been postponed until tomorrow night because of the weather. Thursday. "Legacy" is a nin-piece group that features DoWop and Motown music. Sponsor is Ali's Nursery. Concert begins at 7 p.m.
Plainville ensemble plans Southington concert

The Plainville Wind Ensemble presents “Music from Stage to Screen” to be held Sunday, May 16, 2 p.m., at the Southington High School, 720 Pleasant St. The concert “Music from Stage and Screen” will feature some of the music of Broadway and Hollywood. Vocalist Fran Wall will join the Wind Ensemble and grace the stage singing songs from the long running Broadway play “Porgy and Bess” and “Les Miserables”.
The concert is a free and open to the public. The Web site, www.plainvillewindensemble.com, has samples of the music of past concerts, the literature list and listing of future concerts. The ensemble is under the direction of Rick Lawrence. This photo of the ensemble was taken at a concert in the bandshell in Walnut Hilll Park in New Britain.

Fourth-graders from Flanders School performed holiday songs during their winter concert on Dec. 3, led by music teacher Darlene Baer. In addition to traditional songs such as, "Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," the students began the evening with a crowd favorite, "Born to Shop."
Auction benefits Chorale Connecticut

Chorale Connecticut is presenting its 7th Annual Auction Saturday, April 12, 5:30 p.m., at Nest Egg Aucion Gallery in Meriden. The auction is being held to raise funds for the group’s May 17 concert, which will feature two rarely performed Mendelssohn choral works, “Gloria” and “Magnificat.” Four Connecticut opera soloists and an orchestra will also perform with the group. At last year’s auction, Col. Carl Brechlin, auctioneer, and Bill Jelf, singer, confer on several auction items.
