Southington volunteers representing various civic organizations were active in making the Veterans Stand Down 2008 event held on Sept. 13 a success. There were more than 1,200 veterans in attendance at the Rocky Hill Veterans Home to learn about community services that are available. Volunteers and project leaders included Elks Lodge 1669, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 and its auxiliary, and the Emblem Club. Organizing the free clothing at the event are, Barbara Pintarich, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 auxiliary, front; Barbara Pasha, Southington Elks, center; and Linda Raynis, American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 auxiliary.

Resident to oversee area Elks Lodges

Plainville resident Michael A. Johnson of Southington Elks Lodge No. 1669, was installed as the new leader of the Northwest District of the Connecticut Elks Association as members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks from across the nation gathered in Anaheim, Calif., from July 6 to 10, for the order's 144th Grand Lodge Convention.
