Southington Fire Department trucks stand outside Southington High School Tuesday afternoon after receiving a report of smoke in the building. The cause of the smoke was determined to be a malfunctioning electric heater in the entranceway. Smoke spread and filled a second floor stairwell but no further damage was caused, according to school officials. Students were not in the building because school had been canceled due to the ice storm. The high school will be open Thursday.
