Fireworks launch the Plainville Fire Company's 26th annual Hot Air Balloon Festival Friday evening. The event, being held at Norton Park in Plainville, continues Saturday morning with a hot air balloon launch at 6 a.m. followed by a day of activities and more on Sunday.

In 2009, for the first time its 25-year history, the annual hot air balloon festival fell subject to a tropical storm, preventing the balloons from launching, and putting a damper on the weekend event.

The Plainville Fire Company's hot air balloon festival begins tonight, Friday, at 5 p.m., and ends at 9 a.m. on Sunday. Balloon launches, a craft fair, balloon glow, food and fireworks are all planned. This is one of the only balloon festivals still held in the Northeast.
