Robber hits local TD Bank this afternoon

Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a TD Bank on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike this afternoon.

At about 12:45 p.m., a white male with a thin build dressed in a grey hooded sweatshirt walked into the bank at 921 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike and handed the teller a note demanding money. Police say the man implied he had a gun but it was never shown.

Parking ban in place

Effective immediately, the Town of Southington has issued an indefinite parking ban on all town roads. This parking ban will remain effect until further notice. Motorists are asked to utilize driveways and parking lots until the ban is lifted.

Police arrest Southington man on arson charges

A local man is facing arson charges in connection with a Bristol barn fire, Bristol police said.

Jeffrey Platt, 48, of Sycamore Road, Southington, was arrested by warrant Friday on charges of first-degree arson, third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief in a May 7 fire at a barn attached to a house at 56 Downs St., Bristol, police said.

Southington Police are in possession of an arrest warrant for Charlene Holmes, 49, who was photographed by a bank camera. Her last known address was 31 Evergreen Ave A5, Hartford. It is alleged that Holmes and another woman Twonne Spruill, had stolen and cashed checks from an elderly women that was in Spruill's care in June, according to police. Holmes is wanted for violation of Connecticut General Statutes, 53a-139; forgery second degree, conspiracy to forgery second degree, 53a-125a; larceny fifth degree, 53a-48/53a-125a; conspiracy to larceny fifth degree, and 53a-48/53a-125b; and conspiracy to commit larceny sixth degree. Twonne Spruill, 36, of Hartford, was arrested on July 27 and charged with conspiracy, forgery and larceny violations. Her court date was July 27 and she was held on a $12,500 bond. Anyone with any information regarding Holmes is asked to call the Southington Police Department at (860) 621-0101.

Accident sends three people to hospitals

On Wednesday, May 5 at approximately 11:47 p.m., a serious two-car motor vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Meriden Waterbury Road and Old Turnpike Road.

Emergency vehicles - multiple police cars, three ambulances and two firetrucks - assist at the scene of a head-on collision that happened just before midnight Wednesday. The accident occurred near the intersection of Meriden Waterbury Road and Old Turnpike Road in the vicinity of Sam the Clam's restaurant. Southington police said one of the drivers was transported by LifeStar to St Francis Hospital and the two other people in the vehicles were transported to St. Mary's Hospital.
