WATERBURY - Newington's win over Amity in Tuesday's first CIAC Class LL semifinal at Municipal Stadium assured an all-CCC West state title game.

The Indians awaited the winner of semifinal No. 2 between sixth-ranked New Britain and seventh-seeded Southington.

High school marching band wins states (again)

The Southington Blue Knights Marching Band won the Connecticut State Championship at the USSBA (United States Scholastic Band Association) New England States Championship competition held Oct. 23, at Kennedy Stadium in Bridgeport. This is the fourth year in a row that Southington has achieved this recognition.

SHS student jazz group performs tonight with chorale

Last summer, as Dorothy Barnhart settled into her new home near Southington High School, she learned that music was in the air, literally. As the artistic director, conductor and founder of Chorale Connecticut, Barnhart has an ear for music. And the sounds from SHS music groups convinced her there was much talent among students.

Southington High School Marching Band Officially kicked off the 2008-09 season on Aug. 11 with its two-week band camp held at Southington High School. The band is currently the USSBA Class VI State Champs for 2007 The students are ramping up for this year’s competition season which begins Sept. 13. This year’s competition show is entitled "The Machines," by Gary Gilroy.
