For Southington resident and fellow 40-year-old Christine Spiegel, life is all of those things and just a little bit more.

Third time's a charm: Softball advances past Simsbury to final four

The Blue Knights softball team figured out that the third time really is a charm as they beat Simsbury for the first time in three chances Saturday, 1-0.

The five seeded Blue Knights softball team got another stellar performance from senior pitcher Brittany Volpe beating 28th seeded Greenwich, 5-1, and advancing to the second round of the Class LL state tournament. They face-off against 12 seed Staples at 4 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, June 2. The winner of that game plays the winner of 4 Simsbury vs. 13 Stamford.

Blue Knights postseason brackets released!

Friday afternoon, the postseason brackets were released by the CIAC for baseball, softball, volleyball and girls tennis. Softball and Volleyball drew the highest seeds at five and three respectively. Baseball will go in as the 29th seed out of 34 and girls tennis is No. 13 out of 21.

This year it hasn’t been the pitching that has given the Blue Knights softball team two loses on the diamond, as is apparent by the scores, 2-1 to Manchester, 1-0 to Simsbury. Similar to the baseball team, it’s been the bats.
