Romano signs with Reds
Sal Romano made it official Saturday morning. Not long after 10 a.m., he put pen to paper and signed a contract to play professional baseball for the Cincinnati Reds.
“I don’t have words for it,” said an ecstatic Romano afterwards. “A couple of days ago I was ready to go to Tennessee and then all this stuff happened with Major League Baseball and I’m just so honored to represent the Reds.”

New section of Rails to Trails opens
The newest segment of Rails-to-Trails, which extends from downtown Plantsville to the Cheshire town line, opened this morning with a ribbon-cutting and history tour. Walkers, bicyclists and town officials were present. The trail in Southington now stretches more than 4 miles. It is hoped that with the completion of a few segments the trails will go from Massachusetts to New Haven.

The owner of a small business in Cheshire said his shop is struggling and has been for some time, forcing him to slowly shutter parts of the company while trimming his work force by 20 or so positions over the last five years.
