Sal Romano made it official Saturday morning. Not long after 10 a.m., he put pen to paper and signed a contract to play professional baseball for the Cincinnati Reds.

“I don’t have words for it,” said an ecstatic Romano afterwards. “A couple of days ago I was ready to go to Tennessee and then all this stuff happened with Major League Baseball and I’m just so honored to represent the Reds.”

New section of Rails to Trails opens

The newest segment of Rails-to-Trails, which extends from downtown Plantsville to the Cheshire town line, opened this morning with a ribbon-cutting and history tour. Walkers, bicyclists and town officials were present. The trail in Southington now stretches more than 4 miles. It is hoped that with the completion of a few segments the trails will go from Massachusetts to New Haven.

Ghost town

Downtown Southington is nearly a ghost town Wednesday afternoon as the snowstorm moved out of the area. Although pavement could be seen on most main roads, secondary roads remained difficult to traverse.

We sent this picture to our parents today - Sunday, Dec. 26 - after I did the driveway for the first time this afternoon after the storm started and before it got too bad. Both sets of parents just moved to Florida earlier this year. Mine from Watertown and my girlfriend's from Spring Lake here in town.
