Camp Sloper to be teenagers' haven on Tuesday
On Tuesday, Oct. 18, YMCA Camp Sloper will offer a free drop-in program for Southington middle school and high school teens. Members and non-members are welcome to sign up for the day that begins right after school and runs until 6 p.m. Transportation will be provided from the two middle schools and the high school; parents must pick up their teen by 6 p.m.

Billed as "the competitive art of performance poetry," Slam was invented in Chicago in July 1986 by Marc Smith, a construction worker-turned-poet at an uptown watering hole once frequented by Al Capone.
Seeing life through the eyes of middle school girls
One hundred years from now, people will be able to step back into the lives of Southing¬ton teenagers in 2008. This will be possible, not with a time machine, but through brows¬ing the pages of a scrapbook created by middle school girls that will be kept for posterity by the Southington Historical Society.
