Bikes roll out for youngsters, thanks to ESPN collaboration

On Nov. 8, a group of excited youngsters arrived at YMCA Camp Sloper with their families and left with a brand new BMX bicycle thanks to the generosity of ESPN of Bristol. The giveaway was part of a team-building exercise that resulted in the construction of the bikes. In conjunction with YMCA Camp Sloper, the bikes were given to campers to encourage them to become more physically active.

Camp Sloper to be teenagers' haven on Tuesday

On Tuesday, Oct. 18, YMCA Camp Sloper will offer a free drop-in program for Southington middle school and high school teens. Members and non-members are welcome to sign up for the day that begins right after school and runs until 6 p.m. Transportation will be provided from the two middle schools and the high school; parents must pick up their teen by 6 p.m.

Route 10 and High Street on Friday: road work on water main

The Southington Police Department has annouonced there will be detours set up Friday to access High Street at the intersection of Route 10 (North Main Street) because the Southington Water Department will be repairing a broken water main in front of the YMCA. People will be able to access the YMCA and other businesses. The detours should last between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
