First Annual Chili Throw Down - The First Annual Chili Throw Down, between the American Legion Post 72 and Elks Lodge 1669, is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 64 Main St., Southington. Sampling will be done between both clubs. Donation is $5 to help support the troops.

Chicken Pie Supper - The First Congregational Church has scheduled its 21st annual Chicken Pie Supper on Saturday, Nov. 8 in the church's Memorial Hall, at 37 Main St., Southington. Proceeds will benefit the church scholarship fund. There are two seatings: 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Rummage Sale - St. Paul's Episcopal Church Youth Group has scheduled a Rummage Sale on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church basement, 145 Main St., Southington. Humane Society fundraiser - Local youth have scheduled "Alyscia's Pet Project" on Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Southington Petco, 760 Queen St., Southington. Alyscia and friends will collect supplies for animals, monetary donations and can and bottle recyclables for redemption. All money and supplies will benefit the Connecticut Humane Society.

Briarwood open house - Briarwood College, 2279 Mt. Chicken roast benefit - Jerzie Joe's Sports Bar & Grill, 202 Newell St. has scheduled a Chicken Roast Benefit on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. Proceeds benefit the medical bills of Travis Beaulieu, a self-employed Plainville resident who was injured in a motorcycle accident in October. Spring Big Breakfast Buffet - The Unico Club of Southington has scheduled its Big Breakfast Buffet to benefit Unico charities Sunday, Nov. 9, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St. The all-you-can-eat menu offers eggs, pancakes, French toast, ham, bacon, sausage, hash browns, toast, bagels, muffins, coffee, tea, milk and orange juice. Coping with stress - A workshop, organized by the Alzheimer's Resource Center, about coping with stress will be followed by free chair messages for all Alzheimer's disease caregivers at the Branford Hall Career Institute on Main Street, Southington. Veterans Day ceremony - The American Legion Kiltonic Post 72 of Southington has scheduled its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. on the front steps of the American Legion Post Home, 66 Main St. After the service, representatives from the monument committee will hand out applications and answer questions about adding names to the monument. Applications can be picked up at Town Hall in the Town Clerk's office, at 75 Main St., downstairs at the American Legion after 1 p.m. daily or e-mail stevepintarich@cox.net.

American Legion meeting - The American Legion Kiltonic Post 72, 64 Main St., Southington, has scheduled its monthly meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m., in the upper lounge of its Post Home just off the Town Green. Members and veterans who would like to be members are welcome.

Artist of the Month reception - The Southington Library has scheduled a reception in honor of the artists who have shared their talent as an Artist of the Month in The Gallery, on Wednesday, Nov. 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the café area of the library, 255 Main St. The Gallery at the library was created to provide a venue for local residents to share their artistic talents within town. Light refreshments will be served, and entertainment will be provided by The Isaac Young Trio, performing a mixture of fusion, bebop, funk and traditional jazz, featuring Isaac Young, Ryan Larson and Paul Papantonio. Apple Valley Quilters - The Apple Valley Quilters of Southington is scheduled to meet Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hatton School, 50 Spring Lake Road. Ye Olde Country Fair - Plantsville Congregational Church, 109 Church St., Plantsville, has scheduled its 18th annual "Ye Olde Country Fair" for Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be two tents of "attic treasure" bargains, and the church hall will be filled with handmade crafts, homemade canned and baked goods, a cookie walk, silent auction, gingerbread village, used jewelry and books, a raffle for a handmade quilt, a children's craft room, a luncheon and more. Grandparents Support Group - Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group is scheduled to meet Thursday, Nov. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Calendar House Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St., Southington. Child care and activities are available for the children. Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren or other relative caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. There are several new things that our present members and facilitators have been researching this summer that they are looking forward to sharing with the group. Public Safety Night - The Southington Elks Lodge 1669 will honor local police officers and firefighters in the Southington community, during the annual Public Safety Night dinner and awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the lodge's banquet hall, 114 Main St. The Elks will recognize police officer Joseph D'Agostino, first class trooper Glenn Messenger, and firefighter John Solury, for their dedication to keeping the community safe. Playscape Fundraiser - American Gymnastics Training Center and the South End Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization has scheduled the "American Gymnastics Open Gym Fundraiser" to sponsor SEES Project Playscape on Saturday, Nov. 22, at American Gymnastics Training Center, 1280 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Plantsville. The display will consist of many pictures and souvenirs that servicemen and women brought back with them, including jewelry and weapons made by the natives of the many Pacific Islands, as well as the actual uniforms that were worn in combat. The display will be open to the public in the front room of the lodge, 114 Main St., on Friday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 6 from 1 to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1 to 6 p.m. The committee welcomes any memorabilia that members of the public would like to display. There is no cost to view the display.
