Medication Management - The Southington Library, 255 Main St., in conjunction with MidState Medical Center, has scheduled a program on medication management on Friday, Nov. 14 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the lower level meeting room. The educational opportunity, presented by registered nurse Donna Jones, will cover drug interactions, herbal medicines, and how to keep track of the names and dosages of medications. Ye Olde Country Fair - Plantsville Congregational Church, 109 Church St., Plantsville, has scheduled its 18th annual "Ye Olde Country Fair" for Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be two tents of "attic treasure" bargains, and the church hall will be filled with handmade crafts, homemade canned and baked goods, a cookie walk, silent auction, gingerbread village, used jewelry and books, a raffle for a handmade quilt, a children's craft room, a luncheon and more. Holiday Bazaar - Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church, 200 Summer St., Plantsville, has scheduled a Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crafts, pierogi, golumpki, kielbasa, hot dogs, sauerkraut and baked goods will be available for purchase. Ladies Day Out - The Southington Emblem Club 527 has scheduled a "Ladies Day Out Shopping Extravaganza" on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Southington Elks Lodge, 114 Main St.

Pasta supper - The Southington High School Robotics Team 195 is sponsoring a pasta supper, raffle and bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at DePaolo Middle School, 385 Pleasant St. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and kids and may be purchased at the door.

Holidays in the Mansion - Pilgrim Furniture City has scheduled "Holidays in the Mansion" on Sunday, Nov. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 55 Graham Place, Southington. The evening will feature food, wine, entertainment and a live and silent auction. The event is black tie optional and is $35 per person. All proceeds benefit the Southington United Way and PFC Charitable Fund.

Thanksgiving Day Dinner - The Southington Elks Lodge will be hosting a Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 114 Main St. Two seatings will be offered, from 12 to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Dinner includes turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, peas and carrots, cranberry sauce, bread and butter, coffee and tea, and pumpkin or apple pie. Advance ticket purchases cost $8 and can be made at the lodge tap room, seven days a week between 4 and 8 p.m. Tickets at the door will cost $15.

Lifelong Learning Association - The Lifelong Learning Association is an organization of active learners age 50 or older. Members meet monthly at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, at the intersection of routes 6 and 177. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at 1:00 p.m., and admission is $3. Parent orientation - The Southington High school counselors have scheduled an 8th to 9th grade parent orientation program on Monday, Nov. 17 from 7 to 8 p.m. at J.A. DePaolo Middle School, 385 Pleasant St. The program is for both DePaolo and Kennedy Middle School parents and guardians who have 8th grade students entering high school in the fall of 2009. Grandparents Support Group - Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group is scheduled to meet Thursday, Nov. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Calendar House Senior Center, 388 Pleasant St., Southington. Child care and activities are available for the children. Grandparents who are raising their grandchildren or other relative caregivers are welcome and encouraged to attend. Woman's Club meeting - The Southington Woman's Club is scheduled to meet Thursday, Nov. 20, at 11:30 a.m. at The Orchards, 34 Hobart St. Kris Fritz, of Edible Arrangements, will demonstrate how their edible fruit bouquets and arrangements are made. Annual wing fest - Testa's Restaurant, 26 South Center St. has scheduled the 3rd annual Wing Fest for Thursday, Nov. 20, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participating restaurants include Jerzie Joe's, Saint's, Smokin with Chris, Sliders, Machiavelli's, Wood-n-Tap, The Groggy Frog, Spartan II, and Outback Steakhouse. The event is sponsored by Fire-N-Smoke and Landmark Properties LLC, with entertainment being sponsored by Machiavelli's, featuring The Dave & Dave Show. Public Safety Night - The Southington Elks Lodge 1669 will honor local police officers and firefighters in the Southington community, during the annual Public Safety Night dinner and awards ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the lodge's banquet hall, 114 Main St. The Elks will recognize police officer Joseph D'Agostino, first class trooper Glenn Messenger, and firefighter John Solury, for their dedication to keeping the community safe. Social hour begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. and the ceremony at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $20 with a cash bar available, and may be purchased daily at the lodge, between 4 and 9 p.m. For more information, call (860) 628-6682.

Flu shot clinic - The Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs and the Visiting Nurse Association of Central CT will hold a flu shot clinic on Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Southington Community YMCA from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There is no charge to individuals who have coverage under Medicare Part B, ConnectiCare or Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Aetna. People should bring their insurance card. The fee for those who do not have this coverage is $35. The nurse can give a receipt to those who feel that they may be reimbursed from their insurance company. Checks or cash will be accepted. Checks should be made out to VNACC. The clinic will be open to the public. People age 9 and older are eligible.

Benefit dinner - Lifelong Southington resident, Mike Skridulis, has been diagnosed with a form of cancer called spider angioma and has begun radiation treatments, five times a week. An avid boater and motorcycle enthusiast, he is a member of the Southington Sportsman's Club and the Southington Jaycees. His friends have organized a benefit dinner to be held on Friday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. at the Polish Falcons hall, 33 Knowles Ave., Southington, to help with his medical expenses. Tickets are $20 per person and include food, beer, wine and soda, and can be purchased at Gaby's Café, Napoli Imports, Renaldo's and the Sportsman's Club.

Comedy Night - The Southington Elks Lodge, 114 Main St., has scheduled comedian David Reilly for Saturday, Nov. 22, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show will begin at 8 p.m. for an audience 21 years and older. Playscape Fundraiser - American Gymnastics Training Center and the South End Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization has scheduled the "American Gymnastics Open Gym Fundraiser" to sponsor SEES Project Playscape on Saturday, Nov. 22, at American Gymnastics Training Center, 1280 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Plantsville. The event is open to the public. There are two sessions: 3:30 to 5 p.m. for ages 2 to 6; and 5:30 to 7 p.m. for ages 7 and up. The event will also feature a bake sale, popcorn and refreshments. Tickets are $10 per child or $15 per family and are available at the door.

Franciscan Christmas Fair - The 17th annual Franciscan Christmas Fair, to benefit the programs of the Franciscan Life Center and Franciscan Home Care and Hospice Care, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Franciscan Life Center, 271 Finch Avenue, Meriden. The fair is designed for the entire family and will feature crafts for children, Christmas booths of pottery, hand-made items, hand-decorated wreaths, fresh-cut Christmas trees and Franciscan breads, jams, pickles and more. There will also be Christmas carols, a living creche and eight raffle prizes, including two hand-made quilts and hand-painted furniture. Admission is free. Polish feast dinner - Immaculate Conception Church, 152 Summer St., Plantsville, is hosting a Polish feast dinner on Saturday, Nov. 22, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the church hall. Cost is $15 per person, $7 for children from 5 to 8 years old, and children under 5 are free. Dinner includes peirogi, golabki, kielbasa, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, rye bread, pastry and soda or coffee. Tickets can be purchased at the door or after masses each weekend.

Miss Twirl Pageant - The 25th Miss Twirl Pageant will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, 7 p.m., at St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol. The pageant is sponsored by Sandy's Baton Studio. Southington resident and reigning Little Miss Twirl Elizabeth Boccardi will crown her successor. Among the contestants for the 2009 title include 9-year-old Kendra Kochol, also from Southington. The contestants will be judged in five categories including marching, modeling, interview, achievement, and show twirling complete with props. The public is invited. Tickets are $8 in advance or $9 at the door.

Log Cabin trip - The Daughters of the American Revolution, Susan Carrington Clarke Chapter, have scheduled a trip to the Log Cabin Restaurant in Holyoke, Mass. on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund and veterans' projects. Cost is $74 per person and includes a Broadway style show, featuring the New Dawn Singers, and a luncheon. Departure is at 10 a.m. from Redwood Country Flea Market, South Turnpike Road, Wallingford and 10:30 a.m. from the American Legion, Bernie O'Rourke Drive, Middletown. Pearl Harbor display - The Veterans Committee of the Southington Elks Lodge 1669 has scheduled a static display of memorabilia of the horrific attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The display will consist of many pictures and souvenirs that servicemen and women brought back with them, including jewelry and weapons made by the natives of the many Pacific Islands, as well as the actual uniforms that were worn in combat. The display will be open to the public in the front room of the lodge, 114 Main St., on Friday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 6 from 1 to 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 7 from 1 to 6 p.m. The committee welcomes any memorabilia that members of the public would like to display. There is no cost to view the display.

Holiday jewelry workshop - The Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St., has scheduled a holiday jewelry workshop on Friday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants can create jewelry using handmade African beads, fine crystal and silver. Christmas Tea and Craft Sale - Grace United Methodist Church, 121 Pleasant St., Southington has scheduled its annual Christmas Tea and Craft Sale on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to the tea luncheon, there will be crafts, gift items, holiday cookies, homemade fudge, gift baskets and more. Annual Christmas Bazaar - The Ladies' Guild of St. Aloysius Church has scheduled its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church hall, 254 Burritt St. in the Milldale section of Southington. Christmas items will be offered for sale, as well as handmade articles, baked goods, cookies and a large variety of gift baskets, along with a section for children where they can purchase inexpensive gifts. The Children's Corner will feature face painting and fun sand and the snack bar will be open all day. There is no charge to attend the event.

Book discussion club - The Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., is offering a new book discussion series "Between the Lines A Book Discussion Club" on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m., in the lower level Program Room. Each month a popular book will be discussed by local scholars and the public is invited to come and share views and opinions. Project Playscape dinner dance - The South End Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization is hosting "Project Playscape's 1st Annual Dinner and Dance at the Aqua Turf Club" to raise funds for a new playscape for the grounds of the new South End Elementary School, on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, from 7 p.m. to midnight. The event is open to the public. The cost is $125 per couple, and includes a four-course dinner, five-hour open bar, D.J. and dancing, and door prizes.
