Pearl Harbor display - The Veterans Committee of the Southington Elks Lodge 1669 has scheduled a static display of memorabilia of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. The display consists of pictures and souvenirs that servicemen and women brought back with them, including jewelry and weapons, as well as the actual uniforms that were worn in combat. The display is open to the public in the front room of the lodge, 114 Main St., Friday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m. The committee welcomes any memorabilia that members of the public would like to display. There is no cost to view the display.

Holiday jewelry workshop - The Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St., has scheduled a holiday jewelry workshop on Friday, Dec. 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants can create jewelry using handmade African beads, fine crystal and silver. Skin care for the winter - Morning Meet Up, a bi-monthly program co-sponsored by the Connecticut Center for Healthy Aging and the Southington Library, has scheduled Skin care for the winter as the next Breakfast Club topic, Friday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m., in the lower level program room in the library, 255 Main St. Registration is required. A light breakfast will be provided. Hospitality Night - The Merchants of Downtown Southington Association has scheduled the 26th Annual Holiday Hospitality Night for Friday, Dec. 5 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., in downtown Southington. Events include lighting of the Town Green, merchant walk contest, horse drawn trolley rides, visits with Santa, girl scout carol sing, area businesses open house, and Barnes Museum open house.

Jazz group performance - Issac Young and his jazz combo are scheduled to perform at the Pepper Pot, 9 Center St. on Friday, Dec. 5 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. as part of Hospitality Night in downtown Southington. Holiday Boutique - St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 145 Main St., Southington, has scheduled its Third Annual Holiday Boutique for Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items available for sale include chocolates, Christmas items, wreaths, and ornaments, jewelry and gift baskets. Christmas Tea and Craft Sale - Grace United Methodist Church, 121 Pleasant St., Southington has scheduled its annual Christmas Tea and Craft Sale, Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to the tea luncheon, crafts, gift items, holiday cookies, homemade fudge, gift baskets and more will be offered for sale. Annual Christmas Bazaar - The Ladies' Guild of St. Aloysius Church has scheduled its annual Christmas Bazaar, Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church hall, 254 Burritt St. in the Milldale section of Southington. Christmas items will be offered for sale, as well as handmade articles, baked goods, cookies and a large variety of gift baskets, along with a section for children where they can purchase inexpensive gifts. The Children's Corner will feature face painting and fun sand and the snack bar will be open all day. There is no charge to attend the event.

Santa Breakfast - The Southington High School Band Backers has scheduled its annual Santa Breakfast, Saturday, Dec. 6, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the Southington Elks Lodge, 114 Main St. Cost is $6 for adults, $5 for children and senior citizens, and children under 5 years old are free. Unwrapped toys and canned or dry food items will also be collected for Southington Social Services.

Handel's Messiah - The Southington High School Orchestra has scheduled a performance of Handel's Messiah for Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. at St. Dominic's Church in Southington. The orchestra will be accompanied by soloists and church choir members from the community. The audience is welcome to sing along, a limited number of scores are available to the audience. The performance is free; a good-will offering will be taken to benefit Bread for Life.

AARP Trips - The Southington Apple Valley Chapter AARP 4943 has scheduled a trip to the Mohegan Sun, followed by a performance at the Cornerstone Playhouse in Mystic for Sunday, Dec. 7. The public is invited. For more information, call Esther at (860) 628-0063.

Holiday craft fair - Hatton Elementary School, 50 Spring Lake Road, has scheduled its 2nd Annual Holiday Craft Fair, Sunday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Over 45 vendors will showcase their products. A full lunch menu and several drawings are featured. Admission is $1 and includes entry into a door prize for local restaurant gift cards totaling $100.

Chorale holiday concert - The Southington Festival Chorale has scheduled its annual Christmas concert, Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m., at the Plantsville Congregational Church, 109 Church St. The concert features "Christmas on Broadway," arranged by John Higgins, as well as a blend of classic choruses with carols by masterwork composers. Sponsored by the Parks and Recreation Department, the chorale is under the direction of Joseph Geyer and will be accompanied by Luisa Aquino. Admission is free and is open to the public. Chocolate demonstration - People who love chocolate and cooking, or would like to learn about working with fine chocolate, are invited to attend a lecture and demonstration entitled, "Festive Chocolate: The Versatility of Ganache," at the Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 6:30 p.m. Maria Brandriff, assistant director of the Cheshire Public Library and chocolatier, will present the program. Although this program is free and open to the public, pre-registration is necessary, as attendance is limited. Book discussion club - The Southington Public Library, 255 Main St., offers a book discussion series "Between the Lines A Book Discussion Club" on Thursdays at 7:00 p.m., in the lower level Program Room. Each month a popular book will be discussed by local scholars and the public is invited to come and share views and opinions. Marsha Bonsavage is scheduled to lead the discussion, Thursday, Dec. 11. Annual nativity walk - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will recreate Bethlehem for the annual nativity walk, "O Holy Night," Friday, Dec. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 13, 2 to 6 p.m., at the church, 750 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike, Southington. The nativity walk is an exhibit of more than 150 nativity scenes from around the world. Families will share their crafted nativity scenes made from glass, clay, wood, porcelain and many other art mediums. The even is free and open to the public.

A Christmas Carol - The Southington Drama Club has scheduled "A Christmas Carol" for Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for seniors, students and high school faculty and are available at the door.

National Guard food drive - The Connecticut Army National Guard "Foxtrot" Company 18th Brigade Support Battalion are organizing a food drive for Saturday, Dec. 13, 10 a.m. to 5p.m., at Price Chopper, 410 queen St., Southington. The goal is to fill a Connecticut Army National Guard light Medium Tactical Vehicle, a vehicle which was used to deliver food and aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina. Bethlehem at Grace United - Grace United Methodist Church, 121 Pleasant St., Southington, has scheduled A Night in Bethlehem, a hands-on Holy Land experience, Sunday, Dec. 14, from 3 to 6 p.m. All are welcome to come and stroll through the town of Bethlehem, talk with the shop keepers, smell the herbs and spices, meet Mary and Joseph, and make crafts. There is no charge to attend, but call (860) 628-6996 to register.

Holiday Dance Spectacular - The annual Holiday Dance Spectacular, sponsored by the Southington Parks and Recreation Department, the Southington Arts Council and the Calvanese Foundation, will be held Sunday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at Derynoski Elementary School, 240 Main St. The event is a children's version of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and will be performed by Dance City and The Arts and Platinum Salsa. All proceeds will benefit the Southington Salvation Army and Southington Community Services. Tickets cost $8 for general admission and can be purchased by calling Dance City and The Arts at (860) 628-4433. Tickets can also be purchased at The Music Shop, The Pepper Pot and the Parks and Recreation Department, located in Town Hall. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended as tickets are limited.

New York City bus trip - The Calendar House has scheduled a bus trip to New York City, Monday, Dec. 15. The bus will depart at 11:30 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. Cost is $76 per person and includes a full course lunch at Mont Blanc Restaurant, and a guided riding tour with stops at Rockefeller Center, Tavern on the Green, 5th Avenue, Lincoln Center, and more. Holiday concert - The Southington Chambers Singers has scheduled a concert to celebrate the holidays at the Southington Library, 255 Main St., Monday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the café area of the library. The Chambers Singers will share traditional carols, holiday songs from around the world and contemporary arrangements of old favorites. Refreshments will be served before the program at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
