Little League and Girl's Softball registration - A town-wide registration for all Southington Little Leagues and Girl's Softball is scheduled for Saturdays, Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Derynoski Elementary School cafeteria, 240 Main St. This is for Southington residents only; the minimum age is 5 years old as of April 30, 2009. Children's musical - The Southington Land Conservation Trust has scheduled the children's musical "Lemonade," Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m., at DePaolo Middle School, 385 Pleasant St. The 45-minute presentation includes 34 first- through fourth-graders. Valentine chocolate festival - The American Legion Auxiliary, Kiltonic Unit 72, in Southington has scheduled the Valentine Chocolate Festival, Saturday, Feb. 7, (snow date Feb. 8), at the American Legion Post Home, 66 Main St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a large variety of all things chocolate, including candy, cakes, cookies, pies, and tortes, all handmade by members. In addition, there will be over 25 themed raffle baskets and a cafe to have lunch, consisting of stuffed baked potatoes, chowder, hot dogs, drinks and special desserts for a nominal price. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

Chamber Singers concert - St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 1125 Stafford Ave., Bristol, is sponsoring a "Love Songs for a Lifetime" concert, featuring the Southington Chamber Singers, Sunday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m. The nine-member a cappella choir is known for its singing of unique arrangements and close harmonies. This Valentine-themed program will include centuries of love songs, from madrigals and traditional folk songs to arrangements of popular songs and show tunes. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to make a freewill offering to the St. Andrew Endowment Fund.

Jewelry workshop - The Southington Arts and Crafts Association is sponsoring the following spring program, which will be held at the Orchards Community Room, 34 Hobart St., Southington, Monday, Feb. 9, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.: Jewelry Workshop by Marge Muzyczka. Medication disposal program - The Southington Water Department, in conjunction with local volunteers, will be hosting a free medication disposal program for town residents, Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the SWD Headquarters, 605 West Queen St., Southington. This free event is an opportunity to clean out medicine cabinets and bring all expired and unwanted medication for proper disposal, including prescription, vitamins, over-the-counter and veterinary. All medicine will be disposed of properly by incineration and no medicine will be reused or resold. Also, thermometers, needles or medical waste of any type will not be accepted.

All medicines returned should be in the original bottle with the name and address of the patient crossed off with a permanent marker, which will be available at the event. Leave the name of the medication visible for the pharmacist's review. A law enforcement officer will be in attendance per state and federal laws. Participants will be asked a few general questions, such as town of residence and why the medication is no longer wanted; no personal information will be requested.
