William J. Scanlon

William J. Scanlon, 73, of Southington, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. He was the husband of Joan (Murphy) Scanlon.

He was born Oct. 13, 1934 in Waterbury, a son of the late Walter H. and Mary (Walsh) Scanlon. Mr. Scanlon was a teacher and guidance counselor for Wolcott Schools and San Diego schools until retiring in 1995. Mr. Scanlon was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War as a 1st Lt. stationed in El Paso, TX. Mr. Scanlon was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church. He was an avid sports fan and coached numerous youth teams in the area.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, James W. Scanlon and his wife, Karen, of Waltham, Mass., and Kevin Scanlon and his wife, Jane, of Chaplin; his cherished grandchildren, Autumn, Amber, Chelsey, Hanna and Haley Scanlon; his brothers, Walter Scanlon and his wife, Peg, of Bristol, Robert Murphy and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Montana, Lawrence Murphy and his wife, Catherine, of Oakville, and Michael Murphy and his wife, Brenda, of Sandy Hook; his sisters, Ellen Clement of Southington, Muriel Brasche of Vermont, and Barbara Rossi and her husband, Rocco, of Southington; and many special and loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held May 2 from DellaVecchia Funeral Home, Southington, to St. Thomas Church, Southington. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Southington.
