Joseph Matczak

Joseph Matczak, 50, of Lowery Drive in Southington, died Friday, May 9, 2008.

He was born Aug. 4, 1957, the son of Glenda (Shubert) Matczak and the late Joseph Matczak. He had been employed by Colt Manufacturing in West Hartford for 25 years and was active in the Colt Manufacturing Union committee. He was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He loved fishing, camping, the outdoors and was an avid N.Y. Giants and N.Y. Yankees fan. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and was a great cook. Friends and family will miss his comical ability to make people laugh.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, John Matczak, of Southington; two sisters, Susan Bard and her husband, Tony, of Plantsville, and Linda Briggs and her husband, Steven, of Southington; several nieces and nephews; and a great-nephew.

Services were held May 13 from DellaVecchia Funeral Home, Southington, to Immaculate Conception Church. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Mr. Matczak was a cancer survivor, his family would ask that donations be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave. Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
