Council to tackle three public hearings tonight
Posted on:
The Southington Town Council is scheduled to hold three public hearings tonight, Jan. 24, on two Water Department projects and the sale and lease back of North Center School building.
The Water Department projects include $1.68 million for design and construction of water mains on West Center Street, West Street and Welch Road and a $1.73 million project to replace a water storage tank at the Mariondale Drive Water Filtration plant.
The department is hoping to bond the projects using the town's good credit rating and the bonding will have no impact on taxpayers. The money will be paid back through water department ratepayers, who will not see an increase in rates from the project.
The project with the former North Center School has garnered a lot of support from town officials, but some were concerned about the new sale, lease and eventually buy back process.
The plan is to house school system staff and Town Hall employees at a renovated North Center Facility, freeing up the deteriorating Gura building and 49 Beecher St.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., Council Chambers, 75 Main St., Southington.
