Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced July 16 that 24 Connecticut cities and towns will be receiving more than $1.8 million in federal homeland security funds to buy emergency generators for their local emergency shelters and operations centers.
Southington, one of the recipients, will receive $65,000.
“We want to help local emergency management officials be ready for anything, and these funds will significantly enhance their hurricane preparedness,” Rell said. “The experts say we could be in store for an eventful hurricane season, so these grants will help our cities and towns address pressing needs.”
A total of 50 applications were received in the competitive grant process.
