Festival opening postponed until Saturday noon

The Apple Harvest Festival committee canceled all activities this evening (Friday) because of the heavy rain that is expected. The festival was scheduled to start with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. The opening ceremony is now scheduled to start Saturday at noon with the other activities including the apple pie baking contest that was scheduled for 10 a.m.to follow according to Park and Recreation Department Office Assistant Gerri Roper.

The fireworks show scheduled for Saturday night at 9 p.m. has also been rescheduled to next weekend. The exact day and time of the fireworks display has not been decided yet.

Roper said the committee will continue to monitor the weather conditions but no other activities for the weekend have been canceled or moved yet.

Festival organizer James Champagne said vendors would still open as planned at noon.
