On Thursday, March 18, at approximately 1:42 a.m. Southington Fire Dispatch received a call reporting a fire in a building located at 2211 Meriden-Waterbury Road. Fire Companies from Headquarters, Company 1, Company 2 and Company 3 were dispatched.
Engine Company 5 responded to Fire Headquarters for station coverage. While responding, dispatch notified responding units that several 911 calls were being received reporting a fire inside the building.
Upon the incident commander’s arrival, “active fire” was reported inside Verona’s Pizza.
Fire crews reported the fire under control in about 30 minutes. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, but also contains several other businesses which were not damaged.
“The initial crews entered the store and quickly controlled the fire,” said Captain Mark Saucier, “other crews used thermal imaging cameras to ensure that fire had not extended beyond the initial fire area.” The fire was confined to the pizzeria and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and more information will be released as soon as it is available.
