Mothers Against Drunk Driving CT will hold the first Walk Like MADD, a 5K noncompetitive fundraising walk in Southington, on Saturday, April 21. The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. at town hall, 75 Main St., and will raise funds and rally support for MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving.

Organizers hope this becomes an annual event.

MADD is asking for volunteers to join the walk as team captains and form walk teams. Also they are in search for volunteer face painters, balloon artists and caricature artists to help in the children’s area. Community businesses, corporations and area hospitals are encouraged to become walk sponsors.

Pets are always welcome at the walks and it is encouraged that animal shelters, veterinary hospitals and rescue facilities to join and walk with their dogs.

The Walk Like MADD event provides family entertainment with a designated kids’ zone, a pet zone, and a health and safety area/vendor marketplace.

“The Walk Like MADD brings together families, friends and neighbors to raise funds and awareness to make our roadways safer, “said MADD Connecticut Executive Director Janice Heggie Margolis. “We encourage the Town of Southington and the surrounding communities to make a pledge to eliminate drunk driving and become a part of the solution — form a walk team, pledge walkers or become a corporate sponsor!”
