This year's McCabe's Moving Golf Tournament was a success, said Jim McCabe, one of the organizers. This year, the McCabe family chose two families to donate the proceeds from their golf tournament.

The first family was the Prado family, of Southington. Tina Prado has three sons, Ronnie, Luke and Salvatore. Two-year-old Luke was diagnosed with Thalassemia which requires him to get blood transfusions every three to four weeks. Because of these transfusions, Luke has to have the iron toxicity removed from his blood in order to survive. This is a very painful process that takes approximately 8 to 12 hours each session for the rest of his life. Tina Prado's husband Salvatore died while she was two months pregnant with her third child, whom she named after her husband, Salvatore. Her husband died from an unexpected heart complication at the age of 39. She remains strong for her family and is currently receiving support from her parents. She has become a very involved advocate for the American Red Cross and organizes blood drives in the local areas to show her appreciation for what they do for her son. People interest in helping the Prado family to donate blood on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 1:45 to 6:45 p.m., at Mary Our Queen Church, Savage Street. This blood drive will be held with a Halloween theme

The other recipient chosen for this year's beneficiary is the Depreay Family. Ellery Depreay was Jim McCabe's golf partner and was diagnosed with lung and brain cancer. He fought his cancer as hard as he could for six weeks until his death. He left behind his wife Nancy Depreay and their two sons Ellery and Beau Depreay. Ellery Depreay was a great man with a great spirit and a passion to teach others to be better not just in what they do but to be better people, McCabe said. Depreay volunteered a lot of his time coaching his son's baseball games, teaching snowboarding at Mount Southington Ski Area and teaching his friends how to play golf.

"If you were feeling sad one day and you happened to bump into Ellery he would instantly make you smile because you knew whatever he say was going to make you laugh and forget what you were upset about. The world needs more Ellery Depreays to teach, care and make people feel better about themselves. Ellery was a unique individual and I speak for everyone who ever knew him we love you and we miss you so much," McCabe said.

With the support of 72 golfers, eight volunteers and 35 sign sponsors, this year's tournament raised $5,000 half was donated to each family. The McCabe family would like to thank the following sponsors for their support: Hawks Landing Country Club, Southington YMCA, Hen House, El Sombreros restaurant, Lilly Lake Inn Wedding and Banquet Facility, Mccabesusedfurniture.com, Gary Racine Ultimate DJ, Mad Hatter Muffler, Moment Away Massage Therapy, Ron's Family Fuel, CMC Computers, Carousel Restaurant, Bosse Heating and Air Conditioning, Crazy Bruce's Liquors, Fancy Bagel, Price Chopper, Southington Police Benevolent Association, Executive Kia, Conti's Wine and Spirits, Machiavelli's Restaurant, Anthony Jack's Restaurant, Bonterra Restaurant, DellaVecchia Funeral Home, Southington Rustic Fence, Claytons Mercantile, Play It Again Sports, McCabe's Moving, Cheshire Medical Care Center, Plantsville Station Antique Shop, Branford Hall, Hyster New England, Crystal Restoration, Mike Connolly Sound Production, Jet Transportation, Peter Andrews Agency, Pine Valley Golf Course, Southington Country Club, The Southington Citizen, Family Dental Practice of Southington, Halliwell Electric LLC., Renaldo's Pizza and PTE Energy.
