A big topic of conversation that is adding to the new look of Hawk’s Landing is a brand new permanent pavilion, built by the clubhouse, replacing a temporary tent that used to adorn the area.

“The thought was, we can do one of two things: we can either get another skin and have another tent and have it last another four years, or we can replace it with something a bit more permanent,” course general manager Dave Rustico said.

The old tent was wearing down, had rips, leaks, and pin holes and required a lot of “man-power” each year to put up, take down, and simply maintain on a day-to-day basis.
The new pavilion opens up a wide variety of new possibilities.

“If we make it look like it’s not a pavilion, more of an indoor/outdoor building, then we might be able to attract a different type of business,” Rustico said.

This type of business that Rustico refers to is a non-golf business, which could use the tent for a variety of uses in the downtime when it is not being used for golf course purposes.

The new area has already hosted weddings, banquets, stags, showers, and more.  Golf pro John Vitale says they have even had a brick oven pizza truck come a couple of times. So far, the new addition has been nothing but positive.

“The response has been fantastic; it really has been very positive,” Rustico said.

The pavilion has also been one of the new homes for Friday night bands. Every other week or so, Hawk’s Landing hosts bands following their couples night and neighborhood golf night; the bands used to play on the outside deck, but they have now moved under the pavilion, a place where everyone can watch them under one roof, something Rustico points out as being a nice aspect.

The pavilion is also equipped with everything electronically in an attempt to attract more business meetings, seminars and retreats. Rustico says the course has also purchased an inflatable screen that covers the open side of the pavilion that faces the course and can be used to show videos of all kinds.

Other ideas involve drive-in theater night, amongst others.

Nevertheless, Vitale says Rustico and other ownership bring a family atmosphere to the course and the pavilion only adds to that family feeling, making the course even more welcoming to members of the community.
