Five Southington teens have been arrested in connection with a series of arson fires that occurred Jan. 24 in the Vernondale Court, Vernondale Drive and West Center Street area.

Two of the teenagers involved were also charged with being involved in a previous arson incident that occurred Dec. 6 on Mount Vernon Road.

They include 17-year-old Andrew Potrepka, whose bonds totaled $750,000, which covered a series of allegations involving the Dec. 6 and Jan. 24 episodes.

He was arraigned March 24 on those charges.

Another 17-year-old boy, Nicholas Scarpati, was also arraigned March 24 under similar charges. His bonds totaled $350,000.

According to police officials, it is likely that these two youths will not be eligible for youthful offender status because of the arson charges.

A third 17-year-old male, whose name was not revealed because he won’t be tried as an adult, was also arrested in connection with the Jan. 24 incident, and had his bond set at $10,000.

His arraignment date is April 6.

Joshua Lamson and Nolan Rickard, both 18 years old, were also arrested and charged in the incidents. They received $10,000 non-surety bonds and will be arraigned on April 6.

Police and fire officials responded to approximately 13 separate calls for assistance during the early morning hours of Jan. 24.

Four of the incidents involved car fires on Vernondale Court, one on Vernondale Drive and one on West Center Street.

Two of the calls were for attempted car arson and the vehicles engaged had self-extinguished, with the fire inside the cars burning up all the available oxygen.

The other two calls involved fully engaged car fires.

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents, which were investigated by the Southington Police Department detective division, the Southington Fire Department and the state Fire Marshal’s Office.

Those arrested turned themselves into the Southington Police Department Tuesday. They were charged with a series of offenses, such as arson, burglary, larceny, criminal mischief and conspiracy.

Potrepka was charged with two counts first-degree arson, second-degree arson, conspiracy to commit arson, two counts criminal attempt to commit arson, five counts third-degree burglary, three counts first-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, six counts conspiracy to commit burglary, six counts conspiracy to commit larceny and two counts sixth-degree larceny.
