On Nov. 25, Thanksgiving Day, at approximately 12:19 p.m., a call was received at Southington Police Dispatch reporting a house fire at 119 Sabina Drive. Fire personnel from Headquarters Company, Company 1, and Company 2 crews were initially dispatched.
Prior to arriving on scene a large column of smoke was noticed from the units responding out of headquarters and a general alarm was sounded bringing in coverage from Companies 3 and 5 to handle additional emergencies in town. Heavy fire was showing from the rear of the house and roof upon arrival. Department personnel went into a defensive attack using multiple large hose stream and an elevated master stream from the aerial ladder.
The occupants of the house were not home at the time of fire, however due to the extensive damage the structure is uninhabitable. The quick defensive actions of the fire department in utilizing multiple large caliber hose streams kept the fire contained to the original structure. The homeowners had some classic vehicles stored in the garage which were saved. No injuries were reported.
The Southington Fire Department Inspection Bureau is investigating the fire; the cause is undetermined at this time.
More information will be released as soon as it is available.
