SOUTHINGTON - A passerby found a 2-year-old girl wandering down Norton Street without shoes or a jacket Tuesday afternoon and notified authorities, facilitating a prompt reunion with her family.
The adventurous toddler escaped from her home when her mother fell asleep.
Good Samaritan Warren Reino was driving down Norton Street and saw the young girl playing on a snow bank near the Community Services building at 91 Norton St.
The girl, who was not wearing shoes or a jacket, ran down the snowbank and into the street, according to Reino. He pulled over to make sure the girl was safe and brought her into Community Services to notify police.
Police Spokesman Sgt. Lowell DePalma said the girl was taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut at Bradley Memorial for precautionary measures where she happened to be reunited with her grandfather who works at the hospital.
The girl's mother works third shift and fell asleep on her couch. The girl climbed over a gate in her bedroom, managed to open the door and climbed down a flight of stairs to make it outside their residence at 71 Norton St.
DePalma said no charges have been filed.
