Several weeks ago, the United Way of Southington held its official campaign kickoff on the town green.

On Tuesday, it was Republican Linda McMahon’s turn to kick off her campaign and she chose Southington in which to do it. After making her formal announcement at a local company of her intent to run for the U.S. Senate, McMahon used the offices of the United Way of Southington and Greater Southington Chamber of Commerce to conduct her post announcement one-on-one press interviews.

The UWS doesn’t endorse any candidates for office, but Linda did give this great local charity the “thumbs up,” said Carol Reilly, executive director of the United Way.

“You have to be thick-skinned to become an elected politician. It was a long day of being ready for all the press for her. We were happy to host her in our office and she and her staff were very gracious.”

During this campaigning time of year, Reilly wanted to remind residents, friends and neighbors that they have the opportunity to give to the United Way through workplace giving or independent donations.

“We are Southington people helping Southington people.” said Reilly. “And, your one donation supports 17 local agencies serving the Southington community.”

Donations can be sent directly to the United Way of Southington, P.O. Box 546, Southington, CT 06489.
