Snowboarding
or skiing week

The Southington Community YMCA is offering a week of skiing or snowboarding in conjunction with Mt. Southington Ski Area. During the week of Feb. 21 to 25, children can spend a day on the slopes while being chaperoned by YMCA staff members. Bus transportation will be provided to and from Mt. Southington Ski Area from the YMCA. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with skiing/ snowboarding will be from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; there are options for before and after care at an additional price.

This program is for children in third- to eighth-grade who are full, program or non-members of the Southington Community YMCA. Camp Sloper
winter kickball

YMCA Camp Sloper is hosting its first Winter Kickball Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 12. Eligible participants must be over the age of 15 and teams can have a maximum of 10 players. YMCA holds
annual meeting

The Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA has announced its 82nd Annual Meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. The theme will be “Every Picture Tells a Story,” and several members of the community will be honored for their efforts toward Southington. Indoor
triathlon

The Southington Community YMCA, 29 High St., is hosting an Indoor Triathlon Challenge on Sunday, Feb. 13. Non-members are also welcome to participate. This is a good test for the upcoming triathlon season for veterans or a chance for beginners to get a taste of the triathlon experience. All events will take place at the Southington Community YMCA utilizing the indoor pool for a 15-minute swim, the indoor group cycling studio for a 30-minute ride and the treadmills for a 15-minute run. Start time is 7 a.m. Check-in is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 11, 6:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required no later than Jan. 31 and can be made at the Southington YMCA Membership Services Desk or online at www.southington-cheshireymca.org. There is a charge to attend.

Triathalon
training

The Southington Community YMCA is offering a Triathlon Training Workshop for women on Monday, March 7, from 7:15 to 8 p.m. at the Southington Community YMCA. This workshop will be presented by Jen McAuliffe, USA Triathlon certified Level 1 Coach and certified personal trainer. For people thinking about training for a triathlo, this free question and answer seminar has information on how to get started.

Adult coed
volleyball

The Southington Community YMCA is forming an Adult Coed Volleyball League for men and women, 18 years and older. Two leagues are available: one competitive league consisting of 12 weeks of game time and playoffs and a non-competitive league that will play for 10 weeks without playoffs. Teams will consist of 10 adults with at least two females playing at all times. Games will take place at the Southington Community YMCA Gymnasium on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. beginning Jan. 12 through March 30. There is a charge to participate. Registration for this league has begun and can be made at the Southington Community YMCA Membership Services Desk. There will be no individual sign-ups, teams only please.

Dodgeball
tournament

On Sunday, Jan. 30, at noon, the Southington Community YMCA, 29 High St., will hold its first Dodgeball Tournament. There is a middle school and high school division with a maximum of six players per team. There is fee per person and must be paid in full at time of registration. Only 16 teams per division, registration is on a first-come first-served basis. Pre-registration is highly recommended and can be made at the Southington Community YMCA. This event is open to everyone; participants do not need to be YMCA members and there will be trophies for the top team in each division. Registrations can be made at the front desk at the Southington Community YMCA.

Free fitness
program

Eight Weeks to a Better You is a free fitness program offered by the Southington Community YMCA, 29 High St., through collaboration with the Southington Health Department. Participants must be a Southington resident 18 years and older. This program is open to non-YMCA members. Female participants have the option of using the Southington YMCA’s Women’s Health and Wellness Center during this program. Participants will be guided through a fitness consultation and equipment orientation by certified staff and progress will be charted. The program runs from Feb. 28 to April 11, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Babysitting service is available for a fee. Registration must be made in person at the Southington Community YMCA Membership Services Desk. Enrollment in this program is limited to one session per participant. Space is limited.

Three-on-three
basketball

On Sunday, March 13, the Southington Community YMCA will hold its annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. There are four age divisions for the tournament: grades 3 and 4 (tip-off is 9 a.m.), grades 5 and 6 (tip-off is 11 a.m.), grades 7 and 8 (tip-off is 2 p.m.), and grades 9 and 10 (tip-off is 4 p.m.).

There is a registration fee. The event is open to everyone; participants do not need to be YMCA members. T-shirts for the first 30 registered teams. A maximum of 16 teams will be allowed per division. Registration forms available mid-January. Trophy for top team in each division. Pre-registration highly recommended.

Game day registration up to one-half hour before each division tip-off.

This is a double elimination tournament, so each team is guaranteed two games. Registrations can be made at the front desk at the Southington Community YMCA, located at 29 High St.
